Abortion Data Source

Worldwide, official abortion statistics are under-reported and incomplete. In some cases, like Guatemala, no data is available. In India, (by most estimates, second only to China in abortion numbers) official data is too incomplete to use.

Our data source is the Abortion Worldwide Report (AWR) [Informe Mundial del Aborto (IMA)] (Jacobson and Johnston, 2018). They provide reported and estimated abortions by year for 110 countries and other areas through 2015. You can find updates to this data here.

 

The Work

PassionLife teams travel to Vietnam yearly. To date, over 26,000 Christians have been prepared to teach the Gospel of Life to their people and lead them to answer God’s call to rescue the innocent.

Simplified, reproducible resources on biblical bioethics, prolife apologetics and crisis pregnancy intervention are translated and circulating freely in Vietnamese.

The Impact

Our observation of the Vietnamese Church is that it is courageous and mature. Soon after PassionLife first introduced the 4 Questions training, an indigenous group of Christian pastors, lay people and medical professionals banded together to serve women in crisis. Now this group has made a goal of training every single Christian church in Vietnam in biblical bioethics and crisis intervention over the next several years.

The Challenge

Leaders in Vietnam generally agree that the under-reporting of abortion is particularly pronounced in that country and insist that Vietnam may actually have the highest abortion rate in Asia. 

Vietnam’s Christian community seems especially receptive to our 4 Questions training on the Gospel of Life. They have initiated their own strategic plan to train pastors and churches to cherish human life, reject abortion and rescue the innocent.

Pray that the spreading prolife convictions of Christians in Vietnam would soon be transformed into organized pregnancy help ministries run by local churches and reproducing from city to city.
