I would love to spend a week with you. I just came back from Medellín, Columbia, where I got to spend five days with a group of people studying biblical ethics and theology around the pro-life work. We were preparing them to do full-time work in ministry with a focus on pro-life missions. I am going to be offering the same course this summer at Cedarville University in Ohio, and I would love to spend that week with you, if you are interested. If you have people in your life that are feeling an urge or a calling to go into pro-life work as a full-time career enjoy this course. This is a course that they might want to take.
If you are working at a pregnancy help clinic with a desire to get a solid foundation for the theology and ethics that fuel and guide our work, this would be a wonderful course for you to take, with me, this summer. If you have a passion to learn what the Bible sets as the foundations for life or would like to get a global perspective of why we do what we do in combating abortion, this would be a great opportunity for you to learn more about these topics. Fighting against bioethical issues, like abortion, that are facing the church today will also be taught and explored this summer. I would welcome you to consider spending five days with me this summer, in person, at Cedarville University. I would love to have you and I am immensely looking forward to teaching this class.
I just got back from teaching these topics in Columbia. In the past, I have taught it at a seminary in China. I have taught it in Romania as well. About five years ago, we had another opportunity to teach at a university here in the United States, but that was not able to work out. So, we wanted to find another place where we could offer this course. It is one of several courses that Scott Klusendorf, Dr. Mark Newman, and myself are offering to Christian universities in order to equip the next generation for the full-time, pro-life work in which we have been involved in for over 30 years.
If that is of interest to you, check out their website at Cedarville University and their summer program titled The Defending Life Institute. This class will be offered from June 12th-16th. There will be some reading that you will be required to do beforehand along with some classwork to be completed afterwards. We will be looking at a couple of books. One is by Wayne Grudem on Christian ethics to think through biblical moral reasoning. Another book we will read is by John Kilner on why the church needs bioethics. These are amazing texts. And, of course, I bring about 30 years of teaching this in churches around the world.
Some biblical questions we will examine are: What does God say about human life, including life in the womb? Why do we talk about the shedding of innocent blood when elsewhere the Bible says that no one is innocent? What is the comparison between child sacrifice in the Old Testament and abortion today? How do we bring the grace of the gospel to the guilt and the grief of abortion so that people can experience God’s forgiveness and be set free? We will also be looking at various ways in which the church is seeing the connection between defending the innocent and bringing good news to the guilty in world missions. We will be talking about abortion in China, Columbia, Vietnam, and other places. Examining the history of how believers in past generations have responded to the call of defending the innocent will be a central topic. Also, looking at modern day examples of how this is working out in different parts of the world today will be shown.
There is such a depth to this topic. I have been working in this field for 30 years. I keep discovering new ways to learn, read, think, and apply to this field. I would like to invite you to come and join me at Cedarville this summer. Come, spend a week with me there. It will be a great time and I do not think you will regret the investment. Our goal is to raise up another generation to pick up where some of us are leaving off. I have been in this field for a long time. I want to prepare others who are 18, 19, 20 years old to come in and take over the reins. I want to find the young people who say, “I want to do what you do. I want to learn pro-life apologetics. I want to be able to lead a pregnancy help clinic. I want to get an education that prepares me for the pro-life missions field.” My goal is to pass on all the ideas that most of us at Passion Life had to learn while we were doing it. So come, let us spend a week together and see where God may lead us in learning how to defend the innocent around the world. Thanks, God bless.
